Betrayal by Amber Garr: My thoughts and Giveaway!

Betrayal (The Syrenka Series, #2)Betrayal by Amber Garr
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Did you read Promises(Book#1 in series)yet? If you have, you know that this book is gonna be epic. If you haven't, you are hearing it from me; this book is EPIC! Without my giving away spoilers, I will tell you that Betrayal has a ton more action going on with twists coming at you from left, right, and under(that's possible in water). Oh, and from behind too. Who to trust? What to do? Keep up with Eviana as she finally learns how to kick some butt and defend herself. Will it be enough to protect the ones she loves? Even if she doesn't see it coming?

Again, if you want to know the summary of the book (since I obviously did not give one), please click on the cover and Goodreads will fill in the blanks(and then some; there are many topics in Betrayal I did not address but will for an upcoming review of Book#3^.^).

Promises: My thoughts and Giveaway!

Promises (The Syrenka Series, #1)Promises by Amber Garr
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you have never read a book about mermaids, this would be the series to start with. If you are a mermaid lover like me and have already read several mer-tales, add this to your shelf and you will not be disappointed.

Promises has everything a Young Adult reader could wish for: adventure, mystery, romance (not the insta-love thank goodness!), drama, danger, and suspense. With a diverse cast of characters who are loveable, tolerable, and just plain hateable and a few who are definitely swoonable(its in the Urban dictionary so I didn't make it up), brilliant author Amber Garr brings us the fantastic world of the Syrenka...and their threat to mankind.

Awesome start to a wonderful series that will have your heart going in every direction. Please enjoy Book 1 of the Syrenka Series: Promises. ( I don't like to re-write a summary when the publisher has published a perfectly good one so if you want to know the plot of the book, just click on the cover ^.^)

Pushing the LimitsPushing the Limits by Katie McGarry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Even though everybody and their mother has written a review of this book, I will add my two cents because Netgalley was awesome enough to provide me a copy and I want to show my appreciation.

So while others have raved about the steamy interaction between Noah and Echo, I will express how I felt about the other aspects; their tragic and mysterious pasts. I found myself rushing through the book to figure out what happened to Echo as the reader (and most of the characters) were kept in the dark the most of the way. McGarry is upfront about who did what to Echo but the story behind it all was told in glimpses. We discover her past with Echo and not a moment before (well, for those readers who speculate as they read and can generally guess the outcome, this does not apply to you...but i'm not you). The suspense was great.

Noah's story, on the other hand, had me in tears. I do not watch tearjerkers nor read them because I get too emotionally involved. Noah and his past hit me like a bellyflop in a pool and left me in pain. Thankfully, the stings of bellyflops fade just as Noah's pain fades little by little. He has quite a bit of maturing to do thoughout but when he finally can see what's in front of his face, we all end up happy.

Wonderfully written and alternating between Echo and Noah's point of views is a bonus. This is a very mature young adult novel with a lot of language and mature topics but the cover can tell you that. Thanks again to Netgalley for the copy and thank you to Katy McGarry for writing a book that kept me up till dawn because it was too good to put down.

Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1)Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

WORLDS KEPT THEM APART. DESTINY BROUGHT THEM TOGETHER. Aria has lived her whole life in the protected dome of Reverie. Her entire world confined to its spaces, she's never thought to dream of what lies beyond its doors. So when her mother goes missing, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland long enough to find her are slim. Then Aria meets an outsider named Perry. He's searching for someone too. He's also wild - a savage - but might be her best hope at staying alive. If they can survive, they are each other's best hope for finding answers.

Amazing and awesome and what?! I have to read the sequel ASAP! Much better than the Hunger Games in my opinion...i'm not into the goriness although Under the Never Sky has it's fair share of violence. At first, I felt like I was reading Hunger Games and The Uglies Series with a bit of Firefly/Serenity combined. UH NO, THIS WAS WAY BETTER! While some things were a tad predictable such as the romance and who not to trust, there was a lot that sure threw me for a loop! What an awesome ride!

I feel bad; I was supposed to review some other books that I had finished reading a while ago but I ended up reading this one and just HAD to tell about its awesomeness. In no way does this mean the other books were not as awesome but they are of a different genre and take more time to express my thoughts sincerely. This action-packed thriller has my adrenaline going however and I MUST rant...READ THIS BOOK! Ok now I'm done :)

I realize this is not a very thorough review (if it even qualifies as a review at all) but there is a summary and I'm not about to do a recap. All I ask is that you give this book a chance if you were even remotely interested in either the Hunger Games or the Uglies ok? Man I wish I had read this sooner! Am I still talking? I'll shut up now...get this book!

Between The Land And The Sea (Marina's Tales, #1)Between The Land And The Sea by Derrolyn Anderson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Mermaids, and surfers, and divas! Oh my! Think you can handle it?

Anderson artfully depicts an impressionistic tale in the style of realism. As I came to the end of the first of Marina's Tales, I realized that I had come to accept her story as a believable reality; fins and all. Am I crazy? Maybe. But update GIDGET, throw in some "Fierce!" PROJECT RUNWAY, add in the LIFESTYLES OF THE RICH AND FAMOUS (now THE FABULOUS LIFE OF...), and layer it with scenery of San Francisco along with the coast of Aptos; you can get a glimpse of the life of Marina. Extraordinary creatures didn't phase me since I became spoiled by default. Awesome but child-like mermaids are just the icing with a cherry on top.

These mermaids are definitely unique though as far as their orgins and struggles with ADD...who knew that being immortal could have its disadvantages? Between the Land and Sea is a beautiful, sweet story that wouldn't let me go until I finished its pages. Follow Marina as she discovers her mysterious past to answer the puzzling present. Future...will she have one?
